Lipoid Thromboplastin and Trypsin *

چکیده
Trypsin is known to activate certain proenzymes, including trypsinogen and chymotrypsinogen.7 It also activates prothrombin." In the case of prothrombin activation, platelets have been shown to complement the effect of trypsin. Small quantities of trypsin and platelets together exert a much greater effect than the sum of their separate effects.9 Lipoid thromboplastin has been found to complement trypsin in a similar manner."' The mechanism of this complementary effect is unknown. Therefore, it is of interest to inquire whether lipoid thromboplastin functions as a simple cofactor for trypsin in the activation of proenzymes, generally.

Partial purification of plasma thromboplastin antecedent (factor XI) and its activation by trypsin.
A persistent puzzle in our understanding of hemostasis has been the absence of hemorrhagic symptoms in the majority of patients with Hageman trait, the hereditary deficiency of Hageman factor (factor XII). One proposed hypothesis is that alternative mechanisms exist in blood through which plasma thromboplastin antecedent (PTA, factor XI) can become active in the absence of Hageman factor. In or...

متن کاملDemonstration of kallikrein-like protease activity in nonactivated plasma of patients with Cooley's anemia.
Routine evaluation of 12 children with Cooley's anemia revealed that each one had a prolonged partial thromboplastin time. However, prothrombin time and thrombin time were within the normal range. Specific assays demonstrated low levels of the four contact factors: factors XI, XII, prekallikrein, and high molecular weight kininogen. Further investigation revealed activity against para-nitroanil...
متن کاملDefective esterase and kinin-forming activity in human Fletcher trait plasma. A fraction rich in kallikreinlike activity.
Fletcher trait plasma failed to generate kinin and developed only a small amount of arginine esterase activity at an abnormally slow rate following surface activation. Neither defect was due to a deficiency of Hageman factor (HF, factor XII) or kininogen or to an excessively rapid inactivation of evolving kinin. Pyrex pretreated with Fletcher trait plasma did not generate kinin normally in fres...
